We love that people want to know more about our eco products and sustainable products and we've put our most asked questions here. If you can't find the answer to your question please fill in the contact form below and we will get back to your shortly.

Yes — and often better. Our formulas are highly concentrated, meaning you’re getting more active ingredients with every use, without the fillers found in many liquid products. Expect clean, soft, nourished hair that improves over time.

We remove water to reduce weight, packaging, and waste. What’s left is a more concentrated formula that performs while lowering environmental impact.

At EverCircle, we think you should be able to read a label and actually understand it. That's why we list every ingredient, every time. But what we leave out matters just as much as what we put in.

Here's what you'll never find in our formulas, and the gentler way we do things instead. Tap any ingredient to open it.

Sulphates

What they are: Harsh detergents that create big foam but strip your hair and scalp of their natural oils, leaving them dry, irritated and quicker to fade.

Why we leave them out: Clean hair should never come at the cost of a stripped scalp or colour that fades faster.

What we do instead: We cleanse with gentle, coconut-derived esters that wash beautifully, without the strip.

Silicones

What they are: Synthetic polymers that coat hair to fake smoothness, then build up over time and wash into our waterways, where they don't easily break down.

Why we leave them out: This is the heart of our marine-safe promise. We won't put slip in your hair that lingers in the ocean.

What we do instead: Real, lasting slip from naturally derived conditioning agents that rinse clean, with no build-up and nothing left behind.

Parabens

What they are: Synthetic preservatives that can weakly mimic oestrogen in the body.

Why we leave them out: There are gentler, more modern ways to keep a formula fresh and safe, so those are the ones we use.

What we do instead: A mild, contemporary preservative system [your preservative] that protects your product without acting like a hormone.

Phthalates

What they are: Synthetic plasticisers often tucked inside the single word "fragrance" to make a scent cling. They're flagged as endocrine disruptors.

Why we leave them out: We don't hide anything behind the word "fragrance".

What we do instead: We scent with [how you scent], and we're always phthalate-free.

Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives

What they are: Preservatives that protect a product by slowly releasing tiny amounts of formaldehyde over time. Formaldehyde is a known irritant and a classified carcinogen.

Why we leave them out: Some lines we simply won't cross.

What we do instead: We preserve without any formaldehyde releasers. Full stop.

Drying alcohols

What they are: Light, fast-evaporating alcohols like alcohol denat. and isopropyl. They make a product feel quick and weightless, but they can parch hair and scalp. (Not to be confused with the good fatty alcohols, which do the opposite.)

Why we leave them out: Weightless should never mean parched.

What we do instead: We use the conditioning fatty alcohols, like cetyl and stearyl, that soften and smooth. Never the drying kind.

If we wouldn't be happy explaining an ingredient to your face, it doesn't go in our formulas. Everything we use, fully listed, every time.

Our formulas are designed to minimise harm to waterways and marine life. We avoid ingredients known to persist in the environment or disrupt aquatic ecosystems — so what goes down the drain has a lighter footprint.

There’s something close to home here, too. Did you know there are more fish species in Sydney Harbour than in the Mediterranean? It’s a reminder that what we rinse away doesn’t disappear — it flows into ecosystems we’re connected to. We design our products with that in mind.

Many conventional haircare products contain ingredients that can be harmful to marine life or difficult for waterways to process. These can include:

  • silicones that don’t readily break down
  • sulphates that can be harsh on both hair and aquatic environments
  • synthetic fragrances with undisclosed chemical compositions
  • microplastics that persist in oceans and can be ingested by marine life
  • certain preservatives and additives that can accumulate in waterways

This last category can include:

  • parabens, which have been detected in marine environments and may affect aquatic life
  • formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (used to extend shelf life) that can be toxic in higher concentrations
  • EDTA (chelating agents), which can persist in waterways and bind to heavy metals
  • BHT and similar stabilisers, which may not readily biodegrade

We take a considered approach — selecting ingredients that balance performance with environmental responsibility.

We use a blend of naturally derived and safe synthetic ingredients where needed for performance and stability. Every ingredient is selected with both your hair and the environment in mind.

There’s no such thing as “chemical-free” — even water is a chemical. What matters is which ingredients are used, how they’re sourced, and how they behave in both your hair and the environment.

When choosing haircare, more helpful language to look for is:

  • naturally derived ingredients
  • sulphate-free
  • silicone-free
  • biodegradable or low-impact formulations

We focus on thoughtful formulation — choosing ingredients that perform, while being mindful of their impact beyond the bathroom.

Our formulas are built with ingredients that support hair health while being mindful of their impact beyond the bathroom.

You’ll find:

  • plant-derived cleansers that gently lift away build-up without over-drying the scalp
  • lightweight conditioning agents that soften and smooth without heavy residues
  • botanical oils and extracts to nourish, strengthen and restore
  • biodegradable ingredients chosen to break down more readily in waterways
  • low-impact preservatives used at safe levels to keep products stable and effective

We also remove unnecessary fillers — like excess water — so each product is more concentrated, meaning you use less with every wash.

The result is hair that feels clean, balanced and cared for — without compromising the ecosystems it returns to.

We leave these three out of every EverCircle formula on purpose. Here is the short version of each.

Sulphates are the harsh detergents that make shampoo foam up big. They clean well, but they strip your hair and scalp of the natural oils that keep them healthy, which can leave hair dry, frizzy and quicker to fade. We clean with gentler plant-based alternatives instead.

Parabens are synthetic preservatives that can weakly mimic oestrogen in the body. The science isn't settled on what that means for your health, so we take the simple route and preserve our formulas another way.

Silicones are synthetic polymers that coat the hair to fake a smooth, slippery feel. Over time they build up and need stripping back, and once they rinse down the drain they don't easily break down in our waterways. We create slip and shine with natural oils that your hair, and the ocean, can handle.

We leave ammonia out too. It's the harsh agent used in some colour and lightening products to force the hair cuticle open, and it brings the fumes and scalp irritation that come with it.

Not in the strict sense. "Forever chemicals" is the nickname for PFAS, a different family of chemicals built on bonds that almost never break down. Silicones aren't PFAS, and they do eventually degrade. But they are persistent: some are officially flagged as very persistent and bioaccumulative, they don't break down quickly in waterways, and they build up on your hair. For a brand made for life in and out of the ocean, that's reason enough to leave them out.

Our range is designed to support a variety of hair types — from fine to thick, straight to curly. If you’re unsure, starting with our best sellers or a reset routine is a great place to begin.

If you’re transitioning from conventional products, your hair may take a few washes to rebalance. This is completely normal as your scalp adjusts.

We design with the full lifecycle in mind — from ingredients to packaging. Wherever possible, we use recycled, reusable, or low-impact materials and create products that reduce waste at every stage.

Keep them dry between uses. A well-draining dish or tray will extend their life and maintain performance.
