In Her Element: Madelina at Bellambi Point

In Her Element is a storytelling series by EverCircle that celebrates women who find their balance in nature — from saltwater mornings to slow rituals that ground them. Each story reveals what it means to feel “in your element” — calm, confident, and connected.

For me, being in my element always comes back to the ocean. The beach is where I feel most alive — especially at Bellambi Headland. There’s something about that place; it’s magnetic. It holds this perfect balance between feminine and masculine energy, like the wind and the waves are constantly in conversation. It’s where friendships can unexpectedly find you.

"I actually met my friend Carla there. We bonded over this surfer who’d just cut us both off — we looked at each other, laughed, and that was it. Instant friendship. The ocean brings people together. Girls look out for each other out there.

The beach keeps me grounded but also charged — like it resets my whole system. When life feels heavy, I know a quick dive or even just standing barefoot in the sand can shift everything.

It’s like a recharge. You come out of the water clearer — everything that felt heavy just floats away.”

During the week, my routine is simple: early swims, a catch-up in the water with friends before work. On weekends, it’s more social — surf, sun, and lazy afternoons on the grass. It’s not about structure; it’s about rhythm.

When it comes to beauty or self-care, mine is shaped by the sun and the sea. I grew up under the Australian sun, so I’m big on physical protection — zinc, long-sleeve rashies, hats.

“Even when I’m surfing at sunset, when the UV isn’t as strong — I’m still really conscious about protecting my skin. It doesn’t matter how daggy you look, it's about being smart and looking after yourself.”

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone wanting to feel more connected to nature, it’s this:

“Be present. I have to catch myself sometimes and just say, ‘I’m gonna put my phone down, I’m gonna walk out.’ Doesn’t matter where you go — just get out there. Be part of it. The biggest thing is just getting off your phone. Go find something you love doing outside — and do it with people who make you feel alive. You can’t fake connection with nature — you have to show up for it.”
